Reflections / Gedanken

30.05.2010 Hamburg

A beautiful city in full sunshine – and meeting with Viola & Hermjo Klein, good friends and supporters of HOPE Cape Town. Good to sit together and share and discuss and catch up and plan for the future. I am blessed with my friends….

It is midnight when I arrive back at the hotel and still, the bar is full of people and people enjoy themselves – but for me time to go to bed as an early morning breakfast with Joachim Franz and Sandra Wukowich are on the agenda.

28.05.2010 Rome – Johannes XXIII

Brought upstairs in St. Peters, we visited Johannes XXIII who really tried to open the windows of the church – and today we have to be careful not to close them again..  He is a symbol that we have to be open to realities, so that church can stay relevant in our times.

27.05.2010 Some impressions from the travel to Rome

A journey with so many expectations – and it was amazing to see how the authorities in Rome understood our project and want to support it.

18.05.2010 Home again

A safe landing this afternoon without any major hassle – Cape Town is greeting with sunshine and warmth. So nice to be back.
But reality kicks in immediately, the Ball of HOPE needs now intensive preparation. Somebody who has been a Rotarian in the same club some years ago died with 42 years and the family wishes me to do the memorial service. And there is the flight to Johannesburg on Thursday to attend a meeting of the working group for renewable energy of the SA- German Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
No time to get bored or sin in any way… 🙂

Thanks to Fr Wim for being such an excellent travel companion – and I feel, that we have achieved very much in the last 10 days. I am sure Manenberg is happy to have him back as their parish priest – and I am also sure that the German sweets will find a lot of fans in his community. 🙂

16.05.2010 Muc-FRA-Muenster-Sarmsheim

In the morning a breakfast meeting with two representatives of the “Aktionsbuendnis AIDS” before starting to pack up and leave for the airport. The machine is completely overbooked, the staff at the boarding area has still to learn that LH is a SERVICE orientated business and that the customer pays for his flight and is not the one to be grateful to be chosen to fly with Lufthansa. It is sometimes amazing for me to see and experience the different standards of service deliver of Lufthansa.

Well, the machine is packed, even the jump-sits are used for passengers – we are late,  but why apologise for the mess….LH at its best again….

In Frankfurt another experience of lack of service oriented business behaviour. It seems that the booking of the car with GPS was just a request – so no car with GPS available. The lady from AVIS is not very helpful – the meaning of the word “service” is completely strange to her… maybe unheard?

Europcar is finally helping out – and we rush to Bingen and then to Muenster – Sarmsheim for the information evening about HOPE Cape Town. It is good to see all the familiar faces and to speak with those whose pastoral care was close to my heart more than 20 years ago.. it feels like coming home after all these years.

It is 11pm until back to the hotel where a bed is waiting – tomorrow an early school appointment is waiting for us.
