BUGA 2011

A very exciting day in Koblenz - Germany

AIDS Action Day @ the BUGA (Federal Flower Show) in Koblenz Germany. A great day with lots of info, good music and attentive listeners.

Thanks to the AIDS Hilfe Koblenz, Woodstaudt and the Hildegard von Bingen Schule for their input and support of HOPE Cape Town, but also to make such a day possible.

Also thanks to the administration of the Federal Flower Show to allow such a day and make us all feel welcome and at home during the day.

More information either at your local AIDS Hilfe in Koblenz for local support or at www.hopecapetown.com for info on the work of HOPE Cape Town.

Meetings and preparations… – HOPE Cape Town in action…

Friday, 12. August – Full board of trustee meeting in the afternoon. The process of restructuring of HOPE Cape Town is continuing. Now, 5 years into the existence of the HOPE Cape Town Trust, the envisaged future which led to the founding of the trust kicks finally in. The trust is assuming more and more the function it was thought for: looking after the association’s money and to ensure the financial stability and future of HOPE Cape Town Association. It is great to see that what you have dreamt of years ago suddenly comes into reality. So decisions have to be made to make the synchronise trust and association in a way beneficial for the work and people we care for. Exciting times but with two additional trustees duly elected and an expansion of the advisory board the work will bear the necessary fruits.
This week the board of the association is meeting, time is running for the welcome of the first ever director for HOPE Cape Town. This year, the 10th anniversary of the association sees hard work to put into place everything for the well-being of the organisation for the next years to come. It shows also how dedicated the board members are trying to achieve the best possible for the future of our work.

In October, the custom Germany trip is due again and preparations are also on the way for talks, encounters, workshops and all the rest ahead. Frankfurt, Munich, Aachen, Trier, Berlin, Dresden, Koblenz and maybe Hamburg are in the moment on the map, logistic is sometimes difficult, but at the end it will all come together to promote HOPE Cape Town again in Germany.

Back in Cape Town…

After one week in Johannesburg back in Cape Town and back to normal work. The transformation of HOPE Cape Town, the relationship between the association and the trust in Germany and South Africa now need attention to detail. After 10 years of work from grass root till research it is time like in any other business to review, to assess and to transform: for an even better service to those marginalised by HIV and AIDS, but also by poverty and all the other challenges of life, which make the latter to a permanent run against all odds…

The next two Sundays I will supply for the German-speaking Catholic Community – it will be good to see all the friendly faces again and to say the mass in my mother tongue. I hardly can believe that it is almost 2 years that I left my post as the German chaplain.  Time is flying.

Restructering process

NGO’s like companies in real life are on the constant outlook how to improve and how to be more efficient – and, even more important, how to serve better and achieve their objectives in a constantly changing environment. So also HOPE Cape Town, who is in the process of restructuring and will be headed by a director to be installed in the near future. But it does not end with a human resource decision. How to optimize the work, how to professionalise without losing the heart within the work. Also the HOPE Cape Town Trust has turned 5 this year and it will play a bigger role in the dealings with HIV and AIDS in the Western Cape. Not to forget the relationship between the local trust and the HOPE Kapstadt Stiftung in Germany. Such times are exciting, but also one is pushing thoughts forwards and backwards to achieve the optimum. Not an easy task, but a necessary one. And only if we are able to do this in a professional way the road ahead will be a success for the organisation. I have no doubt that we are on a good way and I wish I could see into a crystal ball to observe HOPE Cape Town in 5 or 10 years time.
