Treatment is getting easier in our days, with medication provided – at least in Europe and the USA which has less side effects and minimize the pill burden. Two new HIV drugs in development that show promise for less frequent dosing were previewed at a conference in San Francisco recently. Albuvirtide is the drug called which could one day suppress HIV for a week while S/GSK1265744 might even do this for a month. First studies show promising results. That poor sexual health may be a warning for heart disease and diabetes is particularly important in South Africa where heart disease kills 200 people every day, and millions are suffering from diabetes. This news is also important to know for people living with the virus and therefore more at risk for heart diseases.

Good news from Swaziland…

The results from a nationally representative HIV incidence study in Swaziland indicate that the national rate of new HIV infections is 2.38% among adults ages 18-49. This figure, comparable to the 2009 UNAIDS estimate of 2.66% for Swaziland adults ages 15-49, suggests that the HIV epidemic in Swaziland may have begun to stabilize in the past few years.
