01.07.2010 What happens..

…if I am silent and not blogging? That is the question I am more frequently asked. Well, the answer is very simple: I either do work I don’t want or I cannot tell about in the moment – there is a lot about confidentiality in the life of a priest – or I really take a break from the internet 🙂

11.06.2010 Let the games begin…

Soccer World Cup 2010 – one can not escape the atmosphere of joy and excitement and it is good so. After all the preparation – paired with all the critical comments about the FIFA circus, the show begins. I hope and wish that there will be no major incident and that all is going smoothly. Let’s also hope that most people are able to forget their misery for a moment and join into the hype of celebrating these days.  The Soccer World Cup 2010 does not take away the problems, but can give people a moment of forgetting about it – a moment of joy, a moment of being proud of South Africa and its achievement. This is a value in itself.

What lays behind the 11.July 2010 – we will see, we will experience, we cannot run away from it. But for now I hope and wish that the games are giving some warmth in the cold Cape Town winter nights.

09.06.2010 Pain & Pleasure….

I did not even remember how it is when a tooth must be extracted… but today was the day when in the morning all the old and cruel memories of a dentist visit became reality again – deja vu…

But I did not have enough time to pity myself as I directly have to drive to Blikkiesdorp near Delft for an interview for the “tagesthemen“. Duty instead of laying down and simply indulge in the pain of losing a tooth.. 🙂
Back to the office then to prepare the first draft for an input, I have to give next week during an economic gathering at the Bavarian House.

Then drive to the official opening to the Bavarian House at the Artscape – it is good to see Minister Schneider, Helen Zille and for me it is indeed a great joy to meet the son of Piet Meyers, previous Minister of Health WC, who is now the MEC for social affairs. A brief contact with Minister Botha and Minister Winde and the Bavarian Delegation. All the well-known faces again – it feels good and somehow home to be amongst them.

The music group “Haindling” shows that Bavaria is more than traditional music and it is a pity that the pain of the morning prevents me from indulging too much into the delicious offerings of the reception following the performance. The Bavarian House is open – now the Soccer World cup 2010 may begin… 🙂

06.06.2010 stampede in Jozi

Only some days to go until the opening of the Soccer World Cup 2010 and a friendly match in Johannesburg ends with a stampede and injuries.. Not well done and please get it right – and “thanks” for sending another signal of incompetency to the world. As if we have not enough bad press to fight every day…

Besides this horrible news, the day went by quiet – Sunday service at Brooklyn Catholic Church,  and as always the mixture of cultures and traditions in this community is for me a symbol for the rainbow nation. Later the day visit of some friends and a premature birthday party for Fr Wim at Lands End in Gordon’s Bay – a nice crowd of people, good food and good conversations. Thanks Wim for the great eve.

With some preperaton for tomorrows meetings and interview requests the day ends on a working note.

31.05.2010 Sunday in Hamburg

Yesterday breakfast with Joachim Franz, Sandra Wukowich and Viola Klein – a longer breakfast with lots of discussion points. In the afternoon a brief meeting with a Facebook friend and family before meeting with the Udo Lindenberg as well as Hermjo & Viola Klein. Udo Lindenberg has an own trust since 2006 and it was decided, that his trust will support the HOPE Cape Town Association for the next two years. The money will be dedicated for the work of HOPE Community Health Workers. The official launch for the support will be in Tuebingen in July this year. The rock star will visit the HOPE Cape Town project in due course.

It emerges that the “Beckmann team” has not decided yet to air the talk-show directly today or a week later – the decision will be taken midday only.
