God, AIDS, Africa & HOPE

Reflections / Gedanken

Thank you

All those, who supported HOPE Cape Town and its work my gratitude and thanks. It was an exciting year full of everything, life has to offer. Stay connected with us and follow us also through 2011 – the World AIDS Awareness Expedition will bring Joachim Franz, me and a whole team of activists into 51 countries in 2011. A personal but also a sociopolitical challenge. You can be part of it via this blog from April till August 2011.
New structures of HOPE Cape Town will assist us to be even more on the forefront of service delivery for those who are battling with HIV and AIDS.

Last but not least thanks to all my colleagues and co-workers of HOPE Cape Town for their dedicated work

Fr Stefan

POZ Magazine: Forecasting the Future of HIV

As much as $722 billion might be needed to tackle HIV by 2031, if no cure or vaccine is found, according to new research published in The Lancet and reported by PlusNews. Study authors predict that in the next 20 years, annual HIV infections will be halved to about 1.2 million. However, new treatment guidelines will raise costs by 43 percent, and about one third of funding must be spent in Africa to stop the epidemic.  Researchers noted that the amount of money needed could drop to $400 billion if countries restructured their AIDS funding policies now.

POZ Magazine: HIV Prevention in Southern Africa Ignores MSM

HIV prevention campaigns in southern Africa focus on heterosexual transmission of the virus and ignore men who have sex with men (MSM), according to a study reported by PlusNews. Among sexually active people with multiple concurrent partners in Malawi, Namibia and Botswana, researchers found over half of the men surveyed had sex with both men and women in the previous six months. Nonetheless, MSM issues are not part of ongoing HIV prevention work in these countries.
