HOPE Cape Town seeks to appoint a Financial Accountant
HOPE Cape Town is a registered non-profit organisation based in Cape Town, dedicated to raising the quality of life of people and communities. Emphasis is placed on children, adolescents and
their families in situations of poverty, HIV and related illnesses.

Firmly grounded in the third decade of delivering service and programs in marginalised communities, HOPE Cape Town’s vision and strategy beyond 2020 focus on:
• First 1 000 Days program for new mothers, babies and toddlers;
• Early learning and school preparedness for pre-school children;
• Literacy and Numeracy assistance and school retention for primary school learners;
• Improving Maths, English, Information Technology and school retention for high school learners;
• Dual Vocational Training and Education for Youth;
• Skills development, artisanal opportunities and income generating projects for adults;
• Social services, community health services, sport & recreation, arts & crafts and food security.

Position description:

The financial accountant will provide financial and administrative support to board members, management, colleagues, donors and other stakeholders of HOPE Cape Town Trust and Association.
Candidate will be responsible for all financial reporting.
The Financial accountant will work closely with the Back Office and Senior staff teams and will be responsible for the following:
• Preparation of information for and execution of monthly accounting cycle
• Preparation of monthly management reports, financial statements and other financial related reports and correspondence on a regular basis, within agreed upon timelines
• Preparation of information for and execution of monthly payroll cycle and reconciliations (including staff leave)
• Manage all tax related matters
• Management of accounts payable and income (donations) received
• Assist with cash flow management function and processing (i.e. bank, petty cash and cash flow forecasts)
• Assist with strategic planning and execution
• Assist with Fundraising proposals
• Assist in the formulation of annual budgets and financial forecasts
• Being a key point of contact for all financial and accounting matters
• Resolution of finance related queries
• Work closely with the appointed auditors
• Ensure organisational compliance to the HOPE Finance Policy
• Manage and Maintain the Donor Database (HDMS)
• Ensuring appropriate segregation of duties exist in the finance and accounting functions
• Make recommendations for improvements in financial and accounting processes
• Provide relieve cover for other administrative staff when they are on leave Minimum requirements:
• Accounting qualification with > 5 years of post-qualification experience.
• Preference will be given to individuals with NGO sector experience.
• Excellent analytical, planning and organisational skills
• Payroll experience
• Sage Pastel experience
• Excellent communication skills
• Excellent command of the English language (verbal & written)
• The ability to communicate in German (advantageous)
• Deadline orientated with the ability to work accurately under pressure
• Ability to work independently
• Valid South African driver’s license & own vehicle
• No criminal record

HOPE Cape Town Association – HOPE Doctor

 

HOPE Cape Town, a local non-profit Organisation providing outreach and education in the field of HIV and AIDS and related illnesses, seeks a full time medical doctor to co-manage the HOPE Doctor portfolio.

Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

• Project management and support
Planning, initiating and executing HOPE Cape Town Association projects and programs.
• Research
Identify research opportunities; plan and implement formal and informal research with translation into the community
• Clinical work
Provide comprehensive clinical care to children at health care facilities which HOPE Cape Town supports.
• Training
Train and support the HOPE Community Health Workers
Provide mentorship, training and awareness as required
• Other
Interact with donors and media as required
Participate in HOPE Cape Town events

The HOPE Doctor will be based at the HOPE Cape Town offices at Tygerberg Campus, University of Stellenbosch, but will be required to travel to health care facilities and community based projects. The successful candidate will form part of senior staff team. This is a full time position (40 hours per week). He/She will report to the Program Coordinator.

Requirements:
• M.B.Ch.B (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery)
• Valid Registration with HPCSA (Health Professions Council South Africa)
• Registration with MPS (Medical Protection Society)
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Superior Communication Skills: Fluent in English (spoken and written); other languages an asset
• Advanced computer skills (Microsoft Office)
• Drivers license with independent transport
• No criminal record
• Work permit (if not SA resident)

The following experience and skills would be advantageous:
• Project management and administrative experience
• At least one year’s experience in managing HIV positive patients on ARV treatment (including children)
• Diploma in HIV Management of college of family physicians of South Africa (Dip HIV Man (SA))
• Research experience
• Interest in development within community

HOPE Cape Town Association and Trust – Donor Relations Manager

HOPE Cape Town, a Western Cape Based non-profit Organization providing outreach and education on HIV and AIDS in the Western Cape, seeks a Donor Relations Manager to drive its funding and marketing initiatives.

Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Research and identify potential donor and funding opportunities (South African and international)
  • Cultivate relationships with new and existing donors
  • Develop , present and submit funding proposals and reports
  • Track donations and maintain up to date records of all contributions
  • Drive all the marketing, public relations and communications initiatives
  • Manage  website and social media and online donation platforms
  • Develop and manage the donor database
  • Attend events on behalf of HOPE Cape Town

The Donor Relations Manager will be based at the HOPE Cape Town offices at Tygerberg Campus, University of Stellenbosch, but might be required to travel. The successful candidate will form part of the back office team. He/She will work closely with the Donor liaison officer (Europe) and will report to the Program Coordinator and the chairperson of the HOPE Cape Town Trust.

 

Requirements:

  • Qualification in Public Relations, Marketing , Social Sciences or related qualifications
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in successful fundraising / marketing
  • Excellent interpersonal skills: diplomatic and discrete; professional and presentable and at ease with people from  different social and economic backgrounds
  • Superior Communication Skills: Fluent in English (spoken and written); other languages an asset; excellent writing ability
  • Advanced computer skills (Microsoft Office)
  • Ability to adhere to strict deadlines, methodical and well organized
  • Experienced with social media
  • Team player but able to work independently
  • Drivers licence, independent transport, no criminal record
  • Work permit (if not SA resident)

  • Willingness to enroll and complete the UNISA HIV and AIDS Counselling Course (training provided by HOPE Cape Town)

• Clinical work
Provide comprehensive clinical care to HIV infected children at community based state health care facilities.
Interact and liaise with the Tygerberg Paediatric Infectious Diseases doctors
•Research
Identify translational research opportunities; plan and implement formal and informal research
•Training
Manage the medical elective student program
Train and support the HOPE Community Health Workers
Provide external training and awareness as required
•Project management and support
Assist in planning, initiating and executing HOPE Cape Town Association projects and programs.

Interact with donors and media as required
Participate in HOPE Cape Town events
Oversee resistance testing and liaise between requesting doctors and the lab.

The successful candidate will form part of the senior staff team and will report to the Program Coordinator. This is a part time position (20 hours per week).
